Privacy Policy

Everyday Chemist is operated by EC Studios Inc. ("we," "us," "our"), a Toronto-based cosmetic engineering studio. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit everyday-chemist.com (the "Site") or buy from us, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep this short and human, because privacy should not require a law degree to read.

This policy is governed by Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial privacy legislation.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you place an order, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or write a review, you give us information directly. This usually includes your name, email address, shipping and billing addresses, phone number, and the items you buy. If you pay by credit card, your card details are entered into Shopify's secure checkout and are not stored on our servers.

Information we collect automatically. When you visit the Site, our systems and the third-party tools we use collect technical information that helps the Site work and helps us understand traffic. This includes your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, the pages you view, the time and date of your visit, and the website you came from. We do not link this technical information to your identity unless you also create an account or place an order.

Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and pixels to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, measure how the Site is used, and (with your consent where required) show you relevant ads after you leave. You can refuse cookies in your browser settings; if you do, parts of the Site may not work as expected.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and ship your orders, and contact you about them.
  • Send you marketing emails about new products, restocks, and lab updates (only if you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email).
  • Respond to questions, returns, or wholesale inquiries you send us.
  • Improve the Site, our products, and our customer experience.
  • Detect and prevent fraud.
  • Meet our legal and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers and partners we need to run the business. The current list:

  • Shopify Inc. Hosts the Site and processes orders. Shopify's privacy practices are described at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
  • Payment processors. Shopify Payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, and other card networks process your payment. We do not see or store your full card number.
  • Shipping carriers. Canada Post, FedEx, UPS, and similar carriers receive the name and address required to deliver your order.
  • Klaviyo. Sends our newsletter and transactional emails, and helps us segment messages by purchase history.
  • Judge.me. Hosts and displays customer reviews. If you write a review, your first name and review content are shown publicly on our product pages.
  • Google Analytics. Helps us understand traffic patterns. We use the IP-anonymized version of Google Analytics where available.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok. If you have consented to advertising cookies, these platforms may receive limited information about your visits in order to measure ad performance.
  • Accounting and tax software. Used to prepare invoices and meet tax obligations.
  • Our internal team. Flavia and Adriana, plus any future employees or contractors we hire, may access your information only as needed to do their jobs.

We may also disclose your information when required by law, when responding to a valid legal request, or when necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property.

International data transfers

Our service providers may store or process your information outside of Canada, including in the United States. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to jurisdictions with different privacy laws than your own. We require our service providers to protect your information at a level consistent with this policy.

How we protect your information

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including SSL encryption for data in transit, restricted access for our team, and the security infrastructure provided by Shopify. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and act quickly if anything ever goes wrong. If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, and to meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw consent to receive marketing communications at any time (use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to us).
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions (for example, we may need to keep order records for tax purposes).
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hi@everyday-chemist.com.

Children's privacy

Our Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

The Site may link to third-party websites, including our parent company EC Studios at ec-studios.ca and our wholesale partner Faire. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these sites. Please review their privacy policies before sharing personal information with them.
